In my work shadows of slowly rotating wire portrait sculptures are projected onto back-lit paper screens, creating the effect of bringing line drawings to life. Distortion resulting from the projection alters the features and expression of the portraits as they rotate. Every half revolution, an optical illusion occurs where the portraits appear to flip and then rotate in the opposite direction. The wire sculptures were conceived and formed to heighten the effect of shadow and rotation, to provide a highly engaging, mesmerizing experience.
